Yes, I too had concluded that the sleep function, even for 'at end of
song', was simply time-based.

But no, just adding a second would not be a satisfactory fix. If the
following track was ripped from a live album, and started immediately
with remnant applause from the previous track (on the CD; not in my
playlist, which is shuffled), then the extra second of audio is going to
play a brief but abrupt burst of applause, which I would find a very
unpleasant way to end a soothing song before sleeping.

We need a different way to fix the issue. I suggested one some years
ago on this forum, but was laughed out of the house. Essentially it
involved maintaining two 'pointers' into the current playlist: 'now
playing' and 'next to play'. When 'sleep at end of song' was activated,
and the current song came to an end (i.e. LMS went into stop mode), both
pointers would be incremented by 1 and stored. So when PLAY is next
pressed, it will start from the new 'now playing' track, which is the
one following the one that played immediately prior to sleeping.

Just one idea; I'm sure the clever programmers maintaining LMS can come
up with others.
