I had the same problem and had been very frustrated with my wireless network performance until I did some research. 2.4Ghz phones can clobber the newer,faster 802.11 routers. My router was using channel 11 and I could NEVER connect to the network anytime the 2.4 Ghz phone was in use in a nearby room.
I changed router to channel 1 and it did improve it some.
