Ohhh, thanks for the clarity old chap! Jeez...I've looked rather
thoroughly on both the slimdevices and readynas forums and just think
all this information (capabilities, limitations, etc) could very easily
be compiled and put on a sticky thread or/and on the WIKI.

Alas I see that there is a LAME transoder that can be downloaded and
installed onto the x86 processor ReadyNAS but no avenue for the Sparc
based NAS...as you mention the processing power is not suitable for this
task.

I guess all this does very much keep the squeezebox crowd limited in
number to a degree. The tinkerers and those fortunate enough to enjoy
programming love it, but as a consumer just looking to get going it sure
does insist on an awful lot of footwork and brow-furrowing to get
everything set up smoothly.

whew..my Sonos by comparison is a cakewalk...but strangely I somehow
like em both. (and there is the 'slacker' thing that sonos doesnt have
at present).

What has become evident to me is that one of the biggest strength of
the squeezebox system are it's passionate users. The number of threads
that reference the commitment of users to hammer away at working through
implementation issues is amazing both here and at the readynas website.
