Same here. I think the throw-away mentality applies more to stand-alone
tech (phones, mp3 players), but given the fact that many Squeezebox
owners a) have several different units around the house and b) might
also come from a demographic that sees 'hifi' purchases as more 'once in
a while', then I think a Squeezebox system is much less likely to be
discarded for a new system.

The big worry of course is that new operating systems won't be supported
in the future. In my case I have a Mac mini running LMS, and Apple have
a habit of (artificially?) removing support for older hardware from new
OS releases. Provided LMS still runs on the last OSX version that my
Mac mini supports, then I'm all set - no need to change anything unless
the hardware fails. Touch wood, my SB hardware seems reliable so far,
and I have a spare Touch in the loft. Rather than chucking it all out
and starting again, I'm hopeful that, at the very least, the current 3rd
party hardware solutions will remain and mature, so that, for instance,
a tablet in a digital dock, or an iPod in a Boom-like dock could replace
any failed hardware.
