Hi all,

Still trying - still failing (sigh).

Here's what I've tried, here's what I've found....

I have now tried uninstalling the RPM and installing from the Dries yum
repository (no dependencies required).
- Still didn't work

I then tried uninstalling (again) and this time installing from source.
I followed the step by step guide
(http://www.maynidea.com/squidguard/step-by-step.html) *to the letter*
including first installing v.3.2.9 of the Berkeley DB.
-Still didn't work

Here is some interesting (I think) stuff:

If I create a deliberately faulty squidguard.conf file (e.g. put "XXX"
on a line on its own) and run /usr/local/squidguard/bin/squidGuard -d
from the command line (as root) it will error and fail but it will *NOT*
write anything to /var/log/squidguard/squidGuard.log (even though the
very first line of that faulty config file is "logdir /var/log/squidguard")

However if I run
/usr/local/squidguard/bin/squidGuard -c /etc/squidguard.conf
with that very same faulty config file it *DOES* write the error to the
logfile.

If however I try to run squid (with either a good or bad squidguard.conf
file) squid *still* fails as before with the message
" WARNING: Cannot run '/usr/local/squidguard/bin/squidGuard' process. " (x5)
in the /var/log/squid/cache.log file and nothing is written to the
squidguard log file.

Does this tell you anything?
Am I getting any nearer?

I am certainly getting close to giving up on squidguard...

Thanks for your help...

Mark
