server side filters 1.4.x require suid binary program. If you installed
program without suid bit set, it does not get privileges needed to modify
your home directory.

server side filter 1.3x use ftp to access your home directory.

Where's this suid binary program you speak of? I didn't see anything about that in the ServerSideFilters plugin documentation nor am I able to find a binary in the serversidefilters plugin folder. :(

I'm using this plugin:
http://www.squirrelmail.org/plugin_view.php?id=210

There's *another* "filter" plugin that came with my install of Squirrelmail (from Gentoo ebuild) that creates the following stuff in $SMHOME/data:

postal data # ls
default_pref  index.php  jnichols.abook  jnichols.gnupg  jnichols.pref
postal data # cat jnichols.pref
chosen_theme=../themes/default_theme.php
show_html_default=0
javascript_on=1
hililist=a:0:{}
unseen_notify=3
filter0=Subject,Test,INBOX.Test
postal data # pwd
/var/www/localhost/htdocs/mail/data
postal data #

That "filter" thing also works ok, but only within SM - it doesn't actually perform any filtering on the server itself, which is what I need.
