Tomas,

or whomever else has experience with composing emails in asian languages using squirrelmail,

I emailed the list in december about having problems composing emails in Thai using squirrelmail. I use squirrelmail 1.4.4 on this box. I do not want to have the interface in another language, just the ability to compose emails in asian languages.

In my config.php, I have
  default_charset       = 'UTF-8';

The problem:

I have Thai language support installed on my laptop (WinXP SP2). I use mozilla firefox 1.5, open up a compose window and compose a message in Thai. This looks fine, and sends fine, but on the receiving end, it looks like sqmail converts the thai unicode characters into htmlentities. The email on the receiving end looks like:
  กเ ายไพเ า

e.g. <ampersand><pound>3585<semicolon>

If I compose email in Thai, save a draft and resume, I get the same in the compose window. More precisely this seems to happen whenever squirrelmail reloads the compose window, e.g. when I hit the "Signature" button.

The OS is Linux Debian. PHP version is 4.3.10, deb package PHP 4.3.10-16. mbstring extension is enabled according to phpinfo().

SquirrelMail supports utf-8. If you use utf-8 or any other multibyte
character set, use of SquirrelMail 1.4.6cvs or 1.5.1cvs and PHP with
mbstring extension is recommended. Older SquirrelMail versions don't
encode headers correctly. If mbstring extension is not present, interface
does not break, but it reverts to broken quoted-printable encoding.

This is a production machine and I am reluctant to use cvs versions. Do you consider them stable enough to use in a production environment?

You gave me these suggestions 2 months ago, do they still apply or is there something else that I can do at this time?

Thank you,

Johannes
