I run my window manager out of ~/.xsession (I sometimwes have to
hack /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession to allow me to do that, arrggh) thusly :-

        ssh-agent fvwm2

Then I can do ssh-add from any shell under the window manager,
and all with then be covered by ssh-agent.

However, there are exploits for hijacking ssh-agent sessions,
so make sure your computer is secure.

Cheers, Andy!
