And again, this XEP does not address any of the issues with XHTML-IM,
web people will just pipe this through the first Markdown library and

passthrough of escaped HTML.

The Council will decide in the next two weeks whether to accept this

Absolutely agree with each statement.
The whole idea sounds awful. I hope the Council will never accept such inconsistent thing as an official XEP.
