I'm trying to install Linux on my Starmax 3000/200 2/64/2.5G to use as a home
desktop OS. My monitor is unknown model, at least to me. (Multi scan 17) I get
nice millions of colors at 800x600 in Mac OS.
LinuxPPC - continuously fails to complete install process, skipping packages and
crash in the middle of the process
YellowDog 2.0 - get phichodelic colors or completely unreadable fonts and mouse
trails
MkLinux - worked fine, but seems to be not as user-friendly and very slow in
screen redraw. Also colors I believe limited to 256.
I am bearing towards trying YDL2 again, but completely do not know what I can do
with these crazy colors.
I played with XF86Config-4 file with out big success. And switching MacOS to 256
seem to help with colors but makes fonts completely unreadable.
To boot I've been using BootX and haven't tried to play with Open Firmware (I am
not familiar with OF so is with Linux)
Or should I just stick with one of the MacOSs?
Any tips?
