Are both the Harddrive and the CDR SCSI?  Could it be that the CDR and the 
Harddrive are both set to SCSI ID 0?  Set the SCSI ID on the CDR to 3 or 
another available number and see if that works.

As far as I have read, I have a PowerMac 4400 with a replaced CD to CDRW 
drive, that both drives should be set to master.  My drives are both IDE 
though..
