In your original post you said that you had the SCSI flash update for the 
CDRW, hence the reason I mentioned the SCSI chain conflict.

As for the Audio, did you check to see if you connected the audio cable to 
the CDRW?  It was connected to you computer, there should have been three 
wires, the power cord, the IDE cable and the audio cord, the smallest of 
them all.

As for the CDRW showing up as 0 along with the harddrive.. are you using 
system profiler?  If so does it say like IDE 0,0 and IDE 0,1 or something 
along that line to say that both are on the 0 channel of the IDE line but 
each one having a seperate designation?

If you harddrive is working and you can read CD's then I would gather you 
have no conflicts with the IDE chain as one would override the other or give 
you some hassle with startup.

As for burning your CD's.. check with the maker of that version of Toast and 
see if your CDRW is supported.. that might be why you are only able to read 
and not burn.. the Apple CD extension might be allowing the read but toast 
might not support the burn on that CDRW, you may need to update your version 
of Toast.
