Hi gang,
I recently purchased an ix UltimateRez video card for my Starmax 5500.
I've downloaded the latest drivers, and am running OS 8.6 w/ 96 MB of RAM and
a Metabox G3 card. I have a few problems with the card and hope you guys can
help me out.
1) I heard/read somewhere that a video card should be placed in either the
1st or 2nd PCI slot closest to the motherboard. The problem is I can't
insert the card in either the first or second slot because my G3 accelerator
is blocking the way. So, the card is now in the 3rd slot. Is putting the
video card there going to work, and if not, how can I fix it while keeping my
G3?
2) Apple system profiler doesn't recognize the video card. It does show a
display card, but says is an ATI Rage II (which I think is the factory card
that came with the 'max, but not sure). However, I plugged my monitor in
through the video card and the monitor works fine, so I know at least part of
the video card is working. Since the card is fitting into a PCI slot,
shouldn't it show up?
3) I used Norton's System Info to clock my Starmax before and after I
inserted the card. There is no noticeable difference between the before and
after. Is this proof the card doesn't work, or is System Info not designed
to detect whatever video acceleration the card is giving?
4) Are there any known software incompatibilities with the card? I disabled
the ATI drivers, but that didn't seem to affect it one way or the other.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Scott
