Hi, Lee.
Yeah, I've complained about the same thing, and drawers opening at random
too. One time I thought "What the Hey" and told it to initialize the disk,
and got a message like "You dummy! You can't initialize a locked disk!": no
harm done.
I upgraded to OS 9.1 (other problems disappeared as well).
I kept my (TEAC SCSI) CD-ROM when I got my (Yamaha IDE) CD-RW. I run only 2
CD driver extensions, disabling all others. For the CD-ROM, the extension
MUST be Apple CD Driver v. 5.3.1 from the StarMax OS 7.6 disk, NOT any later
Mac driver. The do-it-all drivers for iTunes won't work. That's a StarMax
thing and has nothing to do with Toast. For the Yamaha I run the current
Toast CD Reader extension.
No more requests to initialize, no more drawers opening. I do still get
"There's another driver somewhere" from Toast once in a while, but it
doesn't seem to do any harm.
Hope this helped.
Lou
