I am interested in the discussion below as I want to add a CDR to my SM. I
have a SM4000MT, G3., 160 RAM, OS 9.1. I currently have 2 CD ROMs hooked
up, the original 8X IDE and a 24X NEC SCSI unit. I think it would be easier
to replace the IDE CD but I want to get the drivers right. Right now I am
using the OS 9.1 CD/DVD driver and Speed Tools. I want to make both music
and data disks.
I cannot get an Iomega USB CDRW to work. I do not know if it a driver issue
or what, 100% coaster rate. It may be the Iomega is just a piece of junk as
I am at a 50% coaster rate on my wife's PB G4Ti which is all stock. I
didn't care about speed I just wanted something idiot proof and it has
proved I must be the idiot.
I have available drivers: Speed Tools, Apple CD/DVD, original CD ROM Tool
kit, Toast, an Iomega driver, i Tunes and Disk Burner.
So really two questions: 1) Has anyone got the Iomega USB CDRW to work with
their SM? And 2) if that is not worth the effort, what is the best approach
for replacing the IDE or SCSI CD with a CDRW meaning what is a good cheap
(slow is OK, fast is better) unit and which of all the drivers and software
packages should I use.

You mean the Toast CD reader extensions version 4.1.2? I noticed that it
states that if you are using Apple's CD driver you will need to use 5.3.2 or
higher not the 5.3.1 you mentioned or you will have a driver conflict.

Or are you referring to the Toast CD reader extension 4.1.2 as applicable
here?

Just trying to get a clearer picture.

Did I happen to mention that this CDRW is an Adapti drive in my PowerMac
4400.

Any feed back on my thoughts?
