I am not sure, but this is the best of my recollection. Version
1.3.1 came with OS 9.0, version 1.4 came with OS 9.1, version 1.4.3
came with iTunes, and 1.4.7 comes with OS 9.2.1. Version 1.4.3
caused the kind of problems that you describe and version 1.4.7
caused all kinds of problems per Macfixit. I don't know if you can
download the Apple CD/DVD extensions directly from the Apple web
site, but if you can not you can always download the OS 9.1 update
and extract the extension using TomeViewer.
