Well folks,
I've located and installed the 4.5v Pram battery in the
Starmax 3000/200 and nothing really happened. I tried the "cuda"
switch and nothing happened. I got in touch with DT&T and they
suggested that I push the cuda switch with power on....Still
nothing.....except that the fan on the powe rsupply was now turning
but rather slowly. Then I decided just to take a look around
inside....Not that there was much that I would really understand in
there. It's way beyond my meager knowledge. I DID happen to notice a
lot of loose wires hanging around in there though. Many were plugs
with numbers with "P" 1s or 2s up to about 10 or 11. Some of them
were obviously "taps" on power cords from the supply, but a couple of
them were just laying there very close to the power suppy and I
noticed two slots that were open and had two similar plugs that were
attached to the mother board. These two loose ones looked like they
belonged just above them in two available slots. I figured "I'm about
to replace the Power supply or Mother board anyway so what do I have
to lose at this point?" So I took the shot and plugged them in those
two open slots. BTW, They were labeled P1 and P2. It seemed to me
that low numbers like that probably were supposed to be plugged in.
So here we go........I plugged in the AC and pushed the power
button on the front of the machine..........nothing.....then I took
my pencil with the eraser on the end and located that pesky cuda
switch and put the eraser against it while I pushed the power button
again. At first all I saw was a front fan starting to turn and then
stop in sync with me pushing in the power button. It was the first
reaction I had gotten from the machine other than the power supply
fan loping along in the back of the unit. I was about to give up and
said one more time!! I pushed the power button and then pushed the
cuda switch and heard that familiar boot up Mac sound!! I figured
whaddaya know!?? It's going to work!! Well, my smile only lasted a
couple of minutes when I realized that the monitor wasn't getting any
video signal from the machine....Damn! I hit the restart button on
the front of the unit and got the usual reboot chord but no picture!
So now I'm looking, once again, inside the unit for other misplaced
or unhooked wires. I found a small plug with P3 on it. I can't find
any appropriate place for it to be plugged into.
So that's the current state of affairs. The unit is on at the
moment and I don't know whether I can shut it off and getting it
started again. More importantly though is the fact that while it's on
now it's not sending any video signal and I'm pretty much at a loss
for where to go from here!
Anybody know where I should put a 4 pin "P3" connector (no
jokes here please!) in this machine??????? HELP!

                                Jim
