While Netscrape and Exploder are certainly the most visible browsers, installed on most shipping computers, there are certainly alternatives. Mozilla is one, though I have not tried it. I hear Opera is another. The problems arise when the programmers try to make their program unique by dumping in "features" which don't always conform to WC3 standards.
I have been using iCab <http://icab.de>, which seems to adhere to WC3 standards. It is simply a small-footprint browser. It won't grill your chicken to perfection, remind you of your brother-in-law's birthday, put five Ginsu knives in your kitchen drawer, or give you sex appeal of the stars. Its draw back is that it doesn't have the overhead of code that tries to interpret non-compliant code. Pages created by companies that consider FrontPage the ultimate in HTML coding are not being seen by WC3 compliant browsers. Our beloved lowendmac shows up 45 errors in coding on the index page, starting with a missing doctype tag. Still, iCab renders the page quickly and apparently as intended. But then, I think our fearless webmaster/ListMom is more concerned with content than form. (As it should be.) But iCab is good. It is being written (almost single-handedly) by Alexander Clauss. It is certainly worth adding to your arsenal of browsers. -- _____________ PWehr @ gol.com _____________ -- StarMax is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... / Buy books, CDs, videos, and more from Amazon.com \ / <http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/lowendmac> \ Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> StarMax list info: <http://lowendmac.com/lists/starmax.html> Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/starmax%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Macintosh?
