I will dispute that. To launch, yes, but not for browsing. I just did
a little test between I.E. 5.x and Mozilla 1.1. IE launches in probably
half the time that Mozilla takes, but Mozilla beat IE everytime by
10-20% in loading the same web pages. I made sure the pages had not
been cached. Subsequent reload requests for the pages showed the same
trend. (Starmax 3000/180 w 160MB ram BTW)

iCab is certainly lean and mean, but it is erratic. It has been some
time since I last tried it, but it did not work well with Java &
Javascript when I did, two items very necessary for on-line ordering
and other things I often do.

Really both IE or Mozilla are good choices. Browsers are often a
matter of taste and how well they play with one's setup. I like Mozilla
better myself, but IE might be a better one for the original poster
since IE's download file is quite a bit smaller and he is using a 56K
modem. On the other hand, when one adopts Microsoft technology, one
needs to make sure to install the ever present security patches to plug
the latest security hole.

Lastly, it is not a bad idea to keep two different browser's handy if
possible, There is always the odd web page that will not work with a
particular browser. I once ran into a swim team web page that simply
did not work with IE, but did work with Mozilla. The ironic thing was
the page was done with Microsoft Frontpage.
