My 'Max sees the USB CD-RW (through a PCI card and USB hub) and
correctly identifies it. But when I go to write the disk, even an
itsy-bitsy 5 mb file, it takes FOREVER! I never actually get the "ping"
that the disk is done. Ultimately, I abort the process after an hour or
so. What am I doing wrong, or should I just be like hours worth of patient?

It's a Digital Pacific drive and works fine on our 400 mhz Powerbook.
The Starmax is upgraded with a Joe card to 300 Mhz.
