Thanks to the people who gave me some help about speeding up my 5000/275. I found some RAM pretty cheap ($9.95 per 64mb, plus shipping), making sure it was 168 pin 3.3v 60ns non-parity unbuffered EDO DIMM. I got it from eBay, and if it works when I get it, I'll post the auction number here so that you can find cheap RAM for your Starmax if you want it (the guy has plenty I believe). And if you don't mind going with something not sold as a part for a Mac. It's made by IBM, though.
Now I've got a couple of new questions. First about installing the RAM. I got a 16mb module installed when I bought the computer, and of course now I'm going to replace that. I've got a feeling when I open up the computer, I'm not going to be sure which is the 32 I want to leave, and which is the 16 I want to take out. How will I be able to identify the right one to replace? Second, I said I had 500 extensions, which of course sounds like a huge number to me too. And yeah, it takes 3 or 4 minutes to start up. There are 500-some files in my Extensions folder (OS 8.6, no reformats in 5 years and don't have any planned... too much work to get my computer back just how I want it). I ran Apple System Profiler, after reading a couple messages here about it - wondered if I still had it, heh. ASP says I have 228 extensions. That's still a rather large number, but does it seem like a problem, just the sheer number? My computer still runs at a reasonable rate, I'm just getting tired of iCab getting slower and slower.
