Original Starmax 3000 models came with OS7.5.3. Unfortunately, there are several versions of OS 7.5 updates that were specific for Performas or other Apple PPC/non-PPC models, and they would not boot any other models. IIRC, the 7.5 Update 2 was one such version.
You might put out a request on the LEM swap list for an original Starmax CD. It'll have the OS as well as useful software/utilities. Shouldn't cost much as most Max owners have moved on to newer OS versions.
