> Datamem.com is selling Starmax batteries for around $8. Um...I'll just grab a bus down the road to the US and pick one up...
One day, I will actually have to find someone this side of the Atlantic who sells them - I think I have read such a company mentioned, and the mail is presumably preserved. Although if the Mac won't come on... > If you haven't changed your battery in a year or so... If the machine were to switch on in a screen mode unrelated to the one it was in when I last used it, or the clock said something stupid, then maybe, but why would a failing battery leave no sign of itself when the Mac is running? I never did recall seeing any agreement on whether StarMax batteries get trickle charged or not, but if they aren't, then this problem should occur every time, instead of rather infrequently (sometimes a day or two, but generally weeks or months between it doing so). And seeing as I've had it for about two years or something, that's a long time for a battery to be pretending to die. It also tends to fail in the same way sometimes if the OS hangs and I three-key it - the screen goes blank, and then nothing happens - no reboot. If I switch it off at the wall and back on, and turn it back on, that always works. That also is exactly how to make it come on when it won't do so in the first place. Switching it off and on has no effect (unless left off for 30 seconds or something) - it must be off at the wall and on again - does something to it. > Most startup problems are related to the battery or a SCSI problem > (SCSI ID conflict.) I'm trusting SCSI to be OK, it never gives me any grief (scanner and Zip drive). -- StarMax is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... / Buy books, CDs, videos, and more from Amazon.com \ / <http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/lowendmac> \ Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> StarMax list info: <http://lowendmac.com/lists/starmax.html> --> AOL users, remove "mailto:" Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/starmax%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Mac?
