Two days ago I got a DSL hookup sorted out from my ISP (Earthlink). It seems
pretty fast on my old upgraded Starmax . (G3 upgrade, max RAM &
video). Not as fast as the T3 at work but a lot better than the dialup which
I think never hit 56K. Now my next step is to figure out how to connect my
wife's Powerbook G4Ti 400(no airport card). Previously I connected the SM
and PB by a crossover cable. Can't do that now. I only occasionally connect
them but I want to be able to do this.
SO how do I go about this little network?
Is the easiest way to just get a router and connect both the SM and PB by
ethernet cable? Will this work for intermittent PB connections, meaning does
it need to get reset every time I connect and disconnect the PB? What about
sleep mode?
If I want a wireless connection should I get a PCI card for the SM and an
Airport or PCMCIA card for the SM?
I have heard about USB wifi connections and this sounds pretty neat.
Is there a difference between connecting to the SM or the router for
internet access for the PB?
I mostly use OS9 on the PB but I can use OSX if that is a better approach.
Does that make a difference?
