I blamed it on a power brownout. It was only after I pulled the power supply and motherboard from the case, and powered it up just sitting on a newspaper, with the hard drive alone, no CD or any other cards, that it fired up and worked hitchlessly. Installed in a Mac IIci case, my UMax is just fine, sans its floppy drive and CD ROM. What caused it? Can't really say. I noticed that when I wiggled the loosened power supply, I got it to fire when it was torqued just so, in the original case. In the Mac case, I've had no misfires, at all. I'd say the answer might be another motherboard? As you've already gotten another power supply. Unless that power suppply is also bad or hinky.
