Thanks to you all for your prompt responses. My apologies to George. I thought what was happening to me was similar to what used to be referred to as 'SCSI voodoo' only the usb/pci version. I think David is probably correct. The requirements do list G3. I bought it on sale for $5.00 flat and thought it was worth the chance that it might work. I have found that sometimes requirements for mac peripherals are not always that accurate. For instance: my isp insists that to use their ADSL service with a mac you have to have an imac and MacOS 8.6 or better. Just for the heck of it I tried it all the way back to 7.6.1 with my SM and everything was fine. My camara is an el cheapo that only has usb. You might have guessed that already (grin). 8.6 does have firewire support but I have no idea if it works or how it works. I haven't gone there yet although I seem to remember that there have been some compatibility problems with the combo usb/firewire cards. At this point I have enough slots to avoid doing that. From what has been said here I think I know better what to look for. I have a brother in law with a PC that was lacking usb. The IOgear card might be just the ticket for him, if he hasn't yet upgraded.
