SM 5000, 250.

I replaced the battery this morning. Plugged everything back firmly and
tried to start up. Alas, I'm getting the same symptoms that I attributed to
a dead battery. I hear chime. Monitor starts to lighten, then goes black. I
can hear HD spin. Tried to boot from Disk Warrior by holding C key (the CD
tray opens and accpts a disk) --nada. Tried P-RAM, chimes once, then goes
black.

(After I installed the new battery, I pressed CUDA button. It did not seem
to click or go in, as one would expect a button to do when you press it. I
wonder if that's significant. Also, the replacement battery is not a Rayovac
840, but rather a combination of three AA batteries wrpped in a plastic
cover and with a velcro pad -- it is 4.5 on a volt meter.)

128 RAM, 30 GB HD, ethernet, USB card.

Any advice? I expect to be advised to open the box again and make sure that
everything I unplugged (and I unplugged a lot!) is back in firmly. If so,
are there any plugs I should give special attention to?

My need for it is not urgent -- there are a few files on it that I would
like to have. But if all else fails, is there any non-profit that wants this
machine (no monitor) for free except for freight? It's in my home in
Philadelphia, a few 100 yards from a I-95 exit. Or I can get a packing &
shipping price from a UPS store to be pre-paid by the recipient.

Feel free to contact me off list.
