Patrick, if the unit was shipped via commercial carrier, e.g. UPS save ALL the packaging and make a claim to them immediately.
A hit hard enough to dislodge the battery connector is severe. You may well have other connectors off and damage to circuit boards and components. I don't envy you right now!
You can check the battery with a volt meter.
The cuda switch (upper left corner of the motherboard) should be pushed and held ONCE after the battery is reconnected. You can use a pencil ... eraser end... to do this.
I'm going to guess you'll be buying another computer.
If it comes to that I know a fellow with a 5500/200 who has just replaced it with a G4. He does not have his StarMax up for sale yet but I know he is willing to sell it. I know the machine (it used to be mine) and it is in very good condition.
