Hi all,
I'm trying to install the freebie 7.5.3 from Apple's website on my Starmax 4000/200. I'm ultimately trying to install Linux on this box, but, like all OldWorld Macs, the boot loader requires a working piece of system software. Unfortunately, I don't have the hard drive space to spare for OS 9.1, so I'm trying this older OS. When I boot from my external SCSI drive with 9.1 and format the internal hard drive with the old HFS, all is fine. However, I get an error message when I launch the 7.5.3 installer. It says that the installer script doesn't recognize this Macintosh. Any ideas on getting the OS to install or should I find another OS?
Anthony

If I remember correctly (and this is going back to the '96 launch date) the 7.5.3 OS that shipped with the StarMax/4400 was a special version for just those computers. If you have an original SM disk it will work, otherwise you will have to install 7.6.1 or later, which all should work on the SM.
