Then obviously you don't understand sound frequencies and how they can be
played back via the phone!

1. You can never have more than about 8Khz, mono, played back via a modem,
over the telephone - so it this rate they will sound *quite* poor.

2. It depends on the sampling frequency of your modem. Unfortunately cheap
Rockwall 'generic' modems have the *worst* ADPCM playback/conversion,
resulting in the *worst* conversion from a WAV (or other sample format).

A modem with a better ADPCM is the Pace and, even better (arguably the
best), is the Solo, which plays back a 11000Hz, afaik.

3. This happens with *ever* answerphone system. I have the same wav's on my
PC, played back via Microdot, and they sound fine. Better quality than our
high-quality answermachine.

4. The samples provided are 22Khz Mono WAV's and, if played back at this
rate, sound fine. BUT when you convert them through your modem, they will
convert *down* to the ADPCM of your modem, often under 8Khz! CD's play back
at 44Khz, your modem plays back at 8Khz. See the difference? :)

BTW there is absolutely no way you could describe the supplied WAV's as
'poor quality' as, if you do, you are not playing them back correctly. Here,
and with others who have heard them, they say they are 'very professional'
and 'high quality'. BUT, as I said, when converted via your modem, they are
nearly 3x poorer quality.. :(

Nothing we can do about that ^ though!

Chris.
