I have an old Soundblaster 16 card I put into my Celeron box.....on of
those old 16 bit cards, but at least it's genuine Sound Blaster.

Anyway, I have 3 newbie-type problems.

Prob #1
I loaded the sound module by using:
"modprobe -a sb io=0X220 irq=5 dma=1"
Those are the settings I have when I boot in Windows.
The audio works great when logged in as root, but not when logged in as
another user. I can open the mixer as a user (So I suppose it works, and
the sound module is loaded ), but when launching kscd, I get a message:

"Cdrom read or access error. Please make sure you have access
permissions to:"

And then it does not tell me which file. I know I have permissions to
read data off the cd. I've tried to chamge permissions on the kscd
files, and to /dev/dsp with no success. Any hints as to which file is
missing the required permissions, or is this some other type of problem?

Prob #2:
It seems that I do not have Synth devices or Midi devices loaded. Is
this a compatibility problem with the old SB16 cards, or have I
neglected to load other modules? My sndstat reads:

OSS/Free:3.8s2++-971130
Load type: Driver loaded as a module
Kernel: Linux storm 2.2.14-storm #2 Mon Mar 27 21:19:48 PST 2000 i686
Config options: 0

Installed drivers:

Card config:

Audio devices:
0: Sound Blaster 16 (4.13)

Synth devices:

Midi devices:

Timers:
0: System clock

Mixers:
0: Sound Blaster

Problem #3:
When I boot up, I have to load the module again using modprobe. To
enable the module permanently on bootup (without reinstalling the
kernel) do I use insmod? If so, what would the commands be?

Thanks for the help,
Glen Snyder
