Sorry to keep bugging about this, but I am still unable to get the cd
audio to work, except if I login as root. I removed KDE multimedia
completely with the Storm Package Manager and then reinstalled it....the
problem persists. kscd still gives me the message when logged in as a
regular user, "CDROM read or access error" , even though the sound mixer
panel opens just fine.
Any hints on how to solve this, as well as my previous question about
insmode would be greatly appreciated. Do I use the same commands I used
with modprobe to get the module loaded into the kernel everytime I
reboot?
Would the problems with playing midi and wav files necessarily be solved
by swapping out my 6 year-old SB-16 for a new SB-Live card and
reinstalling a different sound module?
