The first step in debugging this problem would be to check and see if the
network module has been loaded. Do this by issuing the command (as root)
'lsmod'. Check the output of this command for the network module that
drives the card. If it's not loaded, try loading it with
"depmod -a (module_name)".
The next thing to do might be to see if the system is currently aware of
the device. You can check this by issuing "ifconfig" At the very least,
you should see the loopback device present, but you'll want to see the
eth0 device listed, along with the MAC address, the IP address, etc. for
the Linksys card.
If the device is detected, it could be that the routing information is
wrong. Check to see the what the default route is with "route -n".
This information will go a long way in helping us to help you.
