You guys rock! Thanks for the advice. I reinstalled the latest version of Hail last night, followed your tips and got it working.
 
Turns out that in a 2.2 kernel, version .91 of the tulip driver is included. .92 is needed for the latest linksys cards (Kernel 2.4 works just fine!).
