I don't recall ever getting a message like that when I updated a kernel
image and I just did one last week. It shouldn't be a problem as your
kernel and existing modules are in memory.
Where is your source file pointing?
Procedure:
copy /lib/modules/2.2.16-storm to something else like
/lib/modules/2.2.16-storm.old
"cp -R /lib/modules/2.2.16-storm /lib/modules/2.2.16-storm.old"
copy vmlinuz-2.2.16-storm in /boot to vmlinuz-2.2.16-storm.old
or whatever your kernel is called.
Confirm the prompt with 'Yes'
After the new kernel image has been installed check
/lib/modules/2.2.16-storm to see if the modules are present. Have a
look in /boot and make sure that there is a new vmlinuz-2.2.16-storm
with the appropriate date/timestamp.
If you are on a laptop also reinstall pcmcia-cs and
pcmcia-modules-2.2.16-storm.
Confirm your lilo configuration. You may want to rerun /sbin/lilo to
see if you get any errors.
I hope that's it. Just remember that you can take a backup of almost
any file by copying it.
