The Caldera OpenLinux 2.3 (I assume that the 1.3 is a misprint) uses a
(very !) stripped down version of Partition Magic 4.0 which does not allow
you to modify the size of the preset partitions (you have a choice of
three). BeOs 4.5 also used it : basically you can't do much more than
create a new non destructive partition in a primary Windows partition. No
boot manager is included. There are also a number of bugs with PM 4 and
large disks (which are apparently redressed by PM 5) .
I thought that Mandrake used its own (pretty buggy) partition tool "Disk
Drake" - there are some real horror stories about it.
It's probably a waste of money to buy the books just for a castrated
partition manager. You'be better off buying the real thing.
Rainish Partition Manager is a very powerful shareware utility (the price
is symbolic but there is also a freeware version) which I've used to fix
corrupted partition tables which PM could'nt even read. If you have the
patience to read the very complete documentation (much better than
Partition Magic's ! ) and don't mind the command line interface, go for it.
