Hello.

I've been playing around with X, and have my Storm Linux2000
installation configured to boot to console login. The runlevel I'm
using is 3, and in this runlevel's rc3.d dir, I've nuked the gdm startup
call. I've set the system up to use blackbox, and have experienced some
odd problems since.

Everything still works normally if I change the runlevel to 2 in
/etc/inittab so that the gdm login, and HelixCode Gnome WM is started on
reboot and login. Here is an example that will make this perhaps more
concrete:

In runlevel 3, if I su from an xterm and try to launch gtop, I get the
following errors (and no gtop):
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server
        Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0

This happens with _many_ things, including the admin tools. This also
occurred when trying to set up the Eagle EDA tool. Weirdly, once I'd
run the setup as root in Gnome (runlevel 2) everything in Eagle works in
BB & runlevel 3. :\

I've done a cursory check in the archives, and come up empty. Can
anyone shed any light on what is happening, and what needs to be changed
to make things run happily in BB?

TIA and hope you all are having good holidays!
Mike
