Thanks Carl, and Happy New Year, everyone!
This is something that's suggested in that QUE book on XFree86 on Linux,
but it doesn't work. Neither does making a /etc/X0.hosts file and
putting a "localhost" entry into it. Sigh. What is different about
running gdm and starting X from the console, in as far as what can be
run on what display by whom?
The xhost +localhost produces the same complaints like the client not
being able to connect to the display. I can only get this to work if I
change the runlevel to 2 in /etc/inittab and do this from gdm and
HelixCode Gnome after rebooting, which doesn't really solve the
problem. Interestingly, no hosts show in response to xhost prior to
issuing "xhost +localhost" in runlevel 2. I have to wonder how gdm gets
around this?
Simply entering xhost in xterm in BB, which should list the accepted
hosts, instead produces:
access control enabled, only authorized clients can connect
-regardless of whether I am the unpriv'd user or su'd.
Any ideas, anyone?
TIA,
Mike
