Yes, I'm using the XF86Config-4 file.  I ran xf86config and that was 
the file it changed.
So are you saying I need to manually move those 
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ directories to the new /etc/X11/fonts/ 
directories?  That I can do no problem.
As for the mouse, I found that interesting because after the setting 
up of the packages it said it wanted to restart certain services but 
gpm wasn't one of them.
I then rebooted for the heck of it and still that mouse message 
popped up.  I guess I'll crack these one at a time.
