I have _no_ experience with Dell "anything", nor ATI graphics cards
unfortunately. :(

Although some components of X-4. got installed, that system is still
running X-3 and probably will until I run apt-get -f dist-upgrade
next. It's been a while :)

If you have your sources.list pointing at the debian stable archives
just change "stable" to "testing" and run apt-get update followed by
apt-get -f dist-upgrade and sit back 'cuz it's going to take awhile =)
especially if you don't have a broadband connection.

As for kernel 2.4.1, just make sure you have the necessary devel stuff
installed (if you did a full install of Storm you've got most of what
you need) and install kernel-package and fakeroot. I grabbed the source
to 2.4.1 from ftp.ca.kernel.org (change the "ca" to your countries
code) and just followed the directions I found in
/usr/share/doc/kernel-package and the man pages.

Sorry, I can't be more specific than that right now as I'm up to my
elbows in Caldera's LTP at the moment with no access to the woody box :(

I hope that was enough to get you going in the right direction.
