I think HTML tag will be around for a long long time.
While there are plans to one day deprecate bean and logic tags, there are no plans to deprecate HTML.
Also... deprecate, as in java.util.Date is deprecated, but AFFAIK still will be part of rt.jar for JRE 1.5 and beyond. Deprecated classes etc stay around a long time is my point (and again, no plans to deprecate HTML any time soon).
So ... pick a tag that works for you. Please keep the list informed of any beta releases and urls.

Also, should it be extending the struts html:input tag, or since those will one day go away, should I be extending a different taglib? I'm more familiar with the struts tags (extended them before) but I want the tag to be useable by the majority of struts developers :)
