Cool!  Here is what I always wanted:

In jsp:
   <html:calendar form="myForm" property="theDate" >

In Action:
   Calendar inputDate = myForm.getTheDate();

In FormBean:
   Calendar theDate = new Calendar();
   + setter and getter;
