Dear all, I am pretty active in simulations today and observed many collisions in my traffic scenario. So I looked at a simple network with a single junctions when exposed to a reasonable traffic flow.

For the sumo simulation, I switched on the collision.check-junctions option. As a result, I got 8 collisions per hour at a single 4-leg priority junction (with a total of 750 vehicles/h entering from 2 perpendicular legs).

When I created vehicle rows (or platoons) by just setting speedDev to a large value (speedDev="0.5", all other parameters are default) then I got even 25 collisions per hour. I observed that in this case, vehicle rows occur and collisions happen when such vehicle rows enter the junction.

I tried to impose more discipline by using a stop_priority junction.
But also in this case many collision occurred.

Are these collisions due to an over-sensible detection or is there a way avoiding them? I have already tweaked my vehicle parameters to the most cautious setting (infinite impatience, optimum driver skill).

Any thoughts?

Best wishes,
Joerg
