Greetings fellow dialists,

In response to Steve Turley's desire to obtain a compass direction from
the sun to within plus or minus thirty degrees, forget all
instrumentation and employ a method which works in sunshine and overcast
and even at night. Just look at the orientation of the satellite dishes
on the houses as you drive past. I believe they all point well within
thirty degrees of south, at least in the northern hemisphere.

For greater accuracy, of course, it is possible to install a sundial on
the dish itself and you can still allow it to receive sky signals, as
several contributors have elegantly done. Not easy to carry along,
though.
