You want to modify /etc/dt/config/Xservers.SUNWut.prototype instead. Not
sure about forcing 8-bit as I have never had the need (and would be very
hesitant to do so).

Regarding utxconfig, did you logout and log back in after making the
changes? Did you use -a to make the settings the default for all
displays? I don't think it applies but you might also want to try
turning auto resizing off.

Subject: [SunRay-Users] SunRay and 8 bit applications

        Hi there,

        Me again...

We have an application that has to run in 8 bit mode. Ideally we
would like all DTUs running in 8bit mode. On earlier frame buffers I
simply ran fbconfig -dev fb1 -depth 8. However, I cannot do this on the
SunRay DTUs. I tried using utxconfig -p on, or -p default but this made
no difference, and utsettings only changes the resolution and refresh
rates.

I noticed that xsun was spawned, so I edited
/etc/dt/config/Xservers and added -defdepth 8, but after I restarted
everything I noticed that this was actually a link to
/tmp/SUNWut/config/xconfig/Xservers, which is created during startup.
How is this file created at startup and how could I go about adding the
-defdefault option to it and would it help?

        Simon.
