I sent this article to our local (former Sun) Oracle rep this morning. He was completely unaware and quite surprised.
Not long ago (a couple months?) I was assured by internal people at Oracle that the Sun Ray platform (including VDI) was still being developed and there was heavy momentum behind it. I guess they had no clue either. I've been begging Sun and Oracle for years to incorporate VB's Teleportation support into VDI, as that would be the killer feature that I think would have been enough to convince the company where I work to go back to them. Sadly, our Sun Rays are all stuffed into closets (so I'm told) after being replaced with PCs (long story that I'm not at liberty to divulge). On another note: I don't think Ellison realizes just how much he's shooting himself in the foot with moves like these. By the time he realizes what he did wrong, there will no longer be a Solaris market to speak of (certainly no SPARC based market). I could go on for hours on the topic, but the first incredibly short-sighted move he made was to kill off the personal/educational use Solaris license (I'm not even going to touch on OpenSolaris). That was a *fantastic* way to ensure schools used Solaris to teach students. They're guaranteed to be learning Linux instead thanks to that brilliant decision. This is just one more move to show how little regard he has for the big picture. I doubt he'll ever see this, but if he does: *There's something you should know... servers run more than just databases. In fact most servers do not run databases.* (sorry for the rant... I've been silent too long) A sad day, indeed. -Kevin On Mon, Jul 15, 2013 at 7:46 AM, Fuerle, Thomas <[email protected]>wrote: > seen this ... > http://www.zdnet.com/oracle-to-halt-development-of-sun-virtualization-technologies-7000018028? > **** > > ** ** > > regards, thomas**** > > _______________________________________________ > SunRay-Users mailing list > [email protected] > http://www.filibeto.org/mailman/listinfo/sunray-users > >
