In my neighborhood the cartridges can be exchanged for a lot less than new. More like half even. I've gotten two printers from used equipment stores for less than $100 each. The old printers my kids bought at the recyclers were only $20 and one was a 600 dpi. Only two of the three worked, but for 20 bucks, it wasn't a big deal. The one that didn't work crunches paper. If I knew more about how they worked I probably coulda fixed it., but you can't see where the problem is cuz the printer won't print when it's open.
