Well, in the aftermath of my hard drive failure, I learned of a valuable
service that has long been available but I never thought to look. After the
crash, I could have gotten back all my lost incoming emails for that period,
had I just clicked one little box in my email app.

Turns out, ISP's have the ability to save emails on their server. Some of
you may already know this, but I don't recall it posted so it seems
something worth sharing. I think just incoming are saved but I guess I
should ask them next week if it is outgoing too.

Anyway, in the email application, are settings under Account, and then
Options. At least that's where it is in Outlook Express and probably
Entourage. Here you can specify that the server retain a copy of your mail
for 30, 60, 90 days or whatever. It definitely would have saved me a few
headaches had I known. But, now I know. So hopefully this tidbit of info
will be worth something to someone.

Dave
