Several responders on the XPF forum affirmed that they had never had any 8 GB issues with the SIIG card. One suggested that I initialize my Maxtor with Drive Setup. That turned out to do the trick. I had initialized with OS X's Drive Utility. After many long hours of backup, Drive Setup init, restore, various utilities, I am back up and able to boot to X through XPF 3 with no helper disk.
*If* you use OS 9's Drive Setup to initialize the ATA HD, it appears that the SIIG ATA/133 card has neither slot nor 8 gig issues.
Good to hear you were able to figure out what the issues were. This is a well know fact that you have to set the drives up in OS 9.x or I believe there is a check mark in OSX's Drive Utility to include OS 9.x drivers in the setup. Several people have said this works. The fact that you could get it to boot at all perhaps kept me from thinking of this. There are so many possible got u's it's hard to think of them all. It's good to know all Acards PCI ATA cards still miss the first 8 gb OSX install issue! Will S
