So what you are having issues with is making a direct copy of a CD ? Not burning VCD's, DVD's data cd's etc? I've never tried this so can't say if any of my CDrw or DVD burners can do this on a UMAX machine. I do remember that it is recommended to make a disk image to the hard drive as the best way to do this

Yes, Will, everything else is fine. What my logic comes up with is that if I had a real speedy CD spinner, then the data would be spun up and ready to be transferred fast enough for the software to get enough of it to keep the burner's buffer filled. Even on single speed burning, I still get an error message and a coaster when trying to copy from another 16 speed CD drive. I'm still hunting for some DVD authoring software and haven't actually "burned" a DVD disk (they are a dollar a piece), but I did do a "simulation" DVD burn without error messages. I simulated a burn at the highest speed the burner would go, x16, and it was fine, so I quit testing.

I just pulled the top off my extra Umax machine and see no reason why the card wouldn't fit in any of the slots so I'm confused by this?
In any case the Sonnet/Acard ATA 66 card is known for working in any PCI slot so you could still use it while using the SIIG card in the top slot.

Well, I couldn't believe this with my own eyes when I was trying to install the card. So, in the interest of accuracy and determining reality, as much as I hate doing this (I have to disconnect everything and move the box to another area to get at it), I'm going to open my S900 and take a closer look at what was going on. If I find that the card/slots are in fact different, I will take nice close-up, 5 megapixil, digital pictures so you all can see. I will also report back if it was only my fumble fingered installation techniques that cause me to error. Ain't this fun?

Again, Happy Holidays to all,
